Who We Are

CTX 1

Breakthrough New York

Breakthrough New York was founded in 1999 under the fiscal sponsorship of the Town School in Manhattan as a summer enrichment program designed to counteract the “summer slide” that disproportionately affects students from underserved communities. Breakthrough has since extended the length and depth of its program to serve students through their high school and college years and expanded its reach to include multiple sites across three boroughs.

Today, we provide long-term support for students from the summer before 7th grade through college graduation—ensuring that the students we serve will always have support as they navigate a complex educational landscape.

Our Mission

We partner with ambitious, academically motivated, low-income students who aspire to be first generation college graduates. We make a long-term commitment to students on their journey to and through college.

Our Vision

Breakthrough New York provides resources, builds relationships, and cultivates resilience throughout our program in order to ensure our students complete their college degree so that they, and their families, will experience increased economic mobility, spanning multiple generations.
