High School Mentor

After-School Teaching Assistant (Fall 2022)

Guide the success of middle school students by teaching pre-written curriculum that will support their entry into a competitive high school.

High School Mentor (2022-2023)

Guide the success of high school students in grades 9-11 by supporting them through a year of high school and ultimately preparing them for college. 

High School Placement Assistant (Fall 2022)

Mentor a caseload of students through the high school application process and ensure students complete all weekly next steps.

College Admissions Specialist (2022-2023)

Support high school students through their college application process and prepare them to apply to a competitive four-year college.

Teaching Fellow (Summer 2022)

This experience is designed for undergraduates of all majors and for those who intend to pursue careers in education, as well as those who haven’t yet considered it. During the eight-week residency, Breakthrough Teaching Fellows receive over 100 hours of teaching and leadership training, and 75 hours of lead classroom experience.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement

Breakthrough New York requires all employees and ongoing-volunteers with in-person role responsibilities to be “up to date” with their COVID-19 vaccinations prior to the start of their in-person role. “Up to date” entails receiving a full vaccine course and at least one booster shot if eligible. Specific deadlines and details will be communicated directly to candidates during the interview process. Candidates in need of an exemption from this policy due to a medical reason or because of a sincerely held religious belief must submit a request for accommodation as soon as possible after an offer has been made.
